Uber and Lyft Vehicle Inspection: How to Be Ready
Uber and Lyft drivers need a vehicle inspection on file to stay active. The inspection is a safety checklist, and most failed items are things you can spot before you arrive.
What the checklist covers
Rideshare inspection forms generally cover brakes and parking brake, steering and suspension, tires and tread depth, all exterior and interior lights, windshield condition and wipers, mirrors, horn, seat belts, doors and windows, and the heating and air conditioning.
Requirements come from Uber and Lyft directly and can change, so bring the current form from your driver app and confirm your vehicle's year eligibility with them.
Items that most often cause a fail
Tires below the required tread depth, a burned-out bulb, cracked or chipped windshield glass in the driver's view, worn wiper blades, a brake warning light, a non-working horn, and air conditioning that no longer blows cold.
Fixing a bulb or a wiper before the inspection is far cheaper than an extra trip.
Before you come in
Bring your inspection form, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. Clear the trunk and back seat so those areas can be checked, and mention any warning light on the dash.
