Why Is My Check Engine Light On?
The check engine light means the computer stored a fault code. It does not tell you how serious the problem is by itself, but how the light behaves gives you a strong hint.
Steady light vs. flashing light
A steady light means get it checked soon. The vehicle is usually drivable, but the fault can affect fuel economy, emissions, and eventually other parts.
A flashing light means stop driving normally and get help. It often indicates a misfire that can damage the catalytic converter quickly.
Common causes we see
A loose or failed gas cap, oxygen sensor faults, ignition coils or spark plugs, mass airflow sensor readings, evaporative emissions leaks, and catalytic converter efficiency codes.
The same code can have several causes, which is why the code is a starting point, not the answer.
What a diagnostic includes
We read stored codes and freeze-frame data, check live sensor values, inspect the related components, and confirm the actual failure before recommending parts.
Bring notes: when the light came on, what changed in how the vehicle drives, and whether it comes and goes.
